Today Is A New Day

Yesterday might have been a bad day, but today is a new one. Easier said than done, I know, but there’s no point looking to the past. What’s happened has happened, and the only way you can move past that is to forget it and look ahead. Five years ago I read Slaughterhouse Five, and ‘so it goes’ is a quote that is repeated throughout. It really struck a chord with me – so much so I got it tattooed on my ribs. It’s hard not to dwell on things that have happened, but as it goes, you cannot change a lot of things. Remembering that is a step forward.

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

When someone asks how you are, you’re expected to just say ‘I’m fine’. We all do it, even when not feeling fine. Truth be told, I’ve been struggling lately. I don’t really know what to do with myself because I’ve never felt this discouraged or low about life in general, but yeah, admitting it is the first step. It’s okay to be unhappy. What matters is that you take a look at what is going on, and try to see how you can make things better. If you can’t, just remember that happiness on the outside is not always as it seems – you are not alone.

Invest In Yourself

Do something that you really want to do. Whether it’s buying a new book or game, whether it’s enrolling onto a class or making time to go visit your dream travel destinations. These things will shape you, and help you to grow. Something that may seem like a lot of money or time now may give you something that you’ll benefit from for years to come. Study something new, create those memories, be selfish. Do what makes you happy.

Do Something That Scares You

Because if we don’t, are we ever challenging ourselves? Are we moving forward? Sometimes you’ve just got to bite the bullet and do that one thing you’ve been avoiding. Probably one of the hardest things to do, yep. This could be anything at all. I’m scared about volunteering at Park Run because, even though I’ve always wanted to, it means interacting with new people. Despite my park run being super friendly. I volunteered myself though for this week because I’m a sucker for making myself do things I don’t want to. It can be anything, small or big.

Someone Else’s Perfect Doesn’t Have To Be Your Perfect

We are all at different stages of life. What you see online isn’t a true reflection of what someone is going through, and we strive too hard to show that perfect image sometimes. Everyone shares their happy moments. The things that they’ve achieved, and the things they are proud of. It’s natural to want to show the best side of life. You’ve just got to remember that the grass isn’t always greener and you’re not seeing the full picture. Enjoy seeing into people’s lives, but don’t make that your focus. Focus on you.
