Heaving my bag over my shoulders, I set off in the same direction as always. Loose gravel crunching under my shoes as I slowly wander up the trail. The trail that leads many walkers, runners, cyclists and of course, various animals up towards the top. Passing fields, woodland, deserted buildings and brilliant bridges. One goal in mind – reaching the pike.
Keeping It Real
Sometimes I just get that sudden urge to get outside and walk somewhere. Quite often it ends up being the same place. Rivington Pike. Because it feels comfortable, and it feels like another home. Exploring this area whilst getting fresh air and just clearing my head. Usually it’s when I’m feeling stressed, or worried, or just feel like I need to take that time out to think and be in my own company.
And it does wonders for the mind!
Actually I was feeling like this right up until I visited the Om Yoga Show last weekend, and it sort of gave my head a bit of a wobble. If I’m being honest, the last few weeks have been kind of tough. You know when you just get stuck in a rut and can’t find the energy to much besides the necessities? Like going to work, eating, attempting to keep a social life?
Yeah, that. So I’m getting my head back in gear.
How I’m Focusing on Fitness
+ Practising Yoga Regularly
After visiting the Om Yoga Show, I made a promise to myself that I would put more effort into ‘me’ time, and do more yoga practise. I know that it makes me feel good and I know that it’s something I want to improve on.
+ Back Into Weights
Aside from that, I told myself I’d focus more on weights this year – which I love doing – but oh it’s so much harder to stick to a routine compared to running. I just can’t find a plan that I really enjoy and I don’t have the knowledge to design my own plan that hits everything properly. It’s kind of frustrating, and I’m thinking about working with a PT for a bit just because I want someone to give me something to do and an idea of what works. This one is a work in progress.
+ Getting Outside
I’m also looking to incorporate fitness more into being outdoors and sort of looking at active travel, if you will. Because keeping active and getting outside is basically just all I want to do in life.
Current Travel Plans
With a couple of trips planned in the next couple of months, I’ve got a lot of things I know I’ll want to share. I’m excited to get back out, doing interesting things and trying new activities. I’ll be in Center Parcs at the beginning of May – a new place for me, and also a trip where I’ll be trying plenty of new things. Also the first trip away with friends. So that’s exciting.
I’ll then be in Cyprus in July, and Disneyland Paris in September. One is for a bit of sunshine and wedding venue visiting (not for my wedding, obviously!) and the other is for a half marathon. So those are trips I am definitely looking forward to.
With a few gaps in between each trip, I’m hoping to get out more locally and explore new places that can be done in a day or two. There are so many places that I’ve never been to that are only a short journey away, and with my car there’s no excuse to not visit!
