Spooky Reads for Halloween

Well, it’s that time of year already – how are we already at the end of October? Every year I think of autumn and picture lovely golden colours outside, cosy nights in and that sense of calm you always see in photographs. In reality, it’s dark when you get up, dark when you get in, and I’m already wearing ten layers to bed and have an extra heater in my room because it’s an extension room and can’t seem to hold heat in… Life eh?

Anyway, to get myself into the Halloween spirit, I’m using this week to get into some spooky reads. There’s nothing better than scaring yourself silly, right? I’ll definitely be watching a scary film or two as well this week when I can fit them in.

Asylum – Madeleine Roux

I’ve had this since last Halloween, and still haven’t read it. I’ve seen really mixed reviews about this one, and it seems like you’ll either love it or hate it. Here’s hoping I love it – or at least like it!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

This is also one that I’ve had since last Halloween. This book feels, to me, like one of those that everyone should read at some point and I’ve been meaning to for ages. I don’t know much about the story, but I’ve seen people say that it makes it better going into the unknown. We’ll see!

The Woman in Black and other Ghost Stories – Susan Hill

Oh, I am excited for this one. I loved the film, and I’ve been meaning to read it for ages. When I saw this edition with other ghostly stories included as well, I just couldn’t resist. Actually – I tell a lie. I resisted just long enough to get home from the shops and find it cheaper on Amazon…

I’m not sure how scary any of this books will actually be – I’m guessing that the first two will be more creepy, and hopefully Susan Hill’s ghost stories will have me spooked. I’ll be reading those last of course, in the hopes I’ll have something scary to read on Halloween itself! Do you have any Halloween books planned?
