Road Trip Itinerary for Ibiza

So, you’ve hired a car in Ibiza. What now?

Ibiza is a great island for exploring, with so many beautiful areas around the coastline. The island itself is quite small, measuring approximately 35km in length at it’s longest point, and around 20km in width. As well as all the beautiful beaches arund the coast line, Ibiza has two mountain ranges to explore.

We hit each of the places below besides Ibiza Town in one day – starting at around 9am and getting back around 5pm.

Start point: Sant Antoni de Portmany

Places to stay in San Antonio

This is a small beach accessed down a winding and narrow road. There is space for parking, but it is limited. The weather wasn’t too great so it was empty when we visited, however, I would imagine it gets pretty busy so getting there early is a must for a good spot!

The beach is surrounded by trees, so it feels really secluded once down there. There are signs for trails, so it would be great to explore if you’re looking for somewhere to also have a little walk. There is also a restaurant here, offering food and drink, with tables giving great views of the cove.

Platja de Cala Xarraca

Location: North East of the island. A 5-minute drive from San Juan, or Portinatx.

Getting there: By car on the road to Portinatx. Parking is available, but limited space. The access road is steep.

Facilities: Restaurant, sunbeds and parasols.

Portinatx

Location: North

Best for: A quieter resort, and a more relaxing holiday.

Places to stay in Portinatx

This resort is in the far North of the island and is a quieter area. It is great for both families and couples, with a range of accommodations available.

There are three beaches and the water is perfect for swimming in. With activities such as water sports, boat trips, snorkelling or hiking around the area, there’s plenty to do if you’re staying for a number of days.

If visiting just for the day, there are some lovely views to take in, alongside plenty of places to have a drink or some food.

This one is a must-do if you’re in the area!

Situated in the North of Ibiza in Cala d’en Serra, you’ll find the ruins of a luxury hotel complex. The main structure of the hotel was completed before building work was halted, meaning you can wander around loads of different rooms as you explore.

The views of the cove from the hotel complex is incredible, and the juxtaposition between this beautiful landscape and the harsh, graffiti-filled concrete building is an interesting experience.

Cala d’en Serra

Location: North of the island. A 15-minute drive from the village Sant Joan de Labritja, and 10 minutes from Portinatx.

Getting there: By car. Parking is available on the road, but limited space. The access road is steep and unsuitable for most cars, so make sure to park at the top and walk down.

Cala San Vicente

Location: North East Ibiza

Parking: There is a car park next to the restaurant.

Places to stay in Cala San Vicente

Cala San Vicente offers a crescent-shaped beach backed by a promenade with hotels, shops and restaurants. We stumbled on this area having seen it on Google Maps when looking at places to hit whilst we were driving around the coast, and it was a joy to discover.

We ate at the restaurant located at the top of the beach – aptly named ‘On the Beach’. The portions were huge, really tasty and the drinks looked fancy!

Santa Eulalia, Ibiza’s third largest resort is only 21 kms from the airport and is a beloved destination for families and those seeking a quieter holiday. There is a beautiful, palm-lined promenade running the length of the broad and sandy beach, and the choice of hotels and apartments in and around the town itself is excellent.

Santa Eulalia has a long-established reputation as the island’s gastronomic and cultural centre. Art Galleries, the beautiful and exclusive Yacht Marina, some of the island’s best restaurants, fantastic shopping, and a thriving all-year community, ensure that life in Santa Eulalia is led at a rather slower and more relaxing pace. There are some nice bars here too, but the nightlife in general is more laid back.

Santa Eulària des Riu

Location: East Ibiza

Parking: There are plenty of large car parks within the area.
