San Antonio is a popular resort in Ibiza, mostly known for its nightlife and beautiful beaches. Hiring a car in San Antonio is a great way to explore the surrounding area, and see further afield as Ibiza is an island you can easily explore by car.
Ibiza Car Hire
There are plenty of car rental companies located in San Antonio that offer Ibiza car hire, and honestly, they are all quite similar in terms of what they offer. Prices will depend on the style of car you want and the time of year. It’s worth having a quick look around to see which company has the best offers as this is likely to change regularly.
We used Motoluis located at Av. Portmany, 17, 07820 Sant Antoni de Portmany as they had good reviews online, and we were able to nip into the shop and book. We got a great deal by going in, so I would recommend going into a shop if it is possible, as you can then speak to someone about what is best suited to your needs and budget throughout your trip. (You may get lucky and manage to get some savings thrown in!)
Options for Hiring a Car in Ibiza
If you want to use car hire from Ibiza airport instead of looking at transfers, there are several companies to book with, such as Alamo, Hertz, Hiper, Sixt and Europcar.
What do you need to hire a car in Ibiza?
To hire a car you will need identification documents, including your driver’s license and passport. You will also be expected to pay a deposit, which will then be refunded when you return the car.
Some companies may have a higher minimum age requirement for drivers, even if you are at the legal age to drive.
Things to Consider When Hiring a Car
When hiring a car in Ibiza, there are a few things you need to consider:
- The size of the car you need, whether it’s for the number of people or the space you will need for luggage.
- The type of car. If planning off-road driving, a small convertible isn’t the best option!
- The fuel costs. Most places, if not all, rent out cars with full tanks, expecting a full tank back so factor that price into your costs.
Driving Laws in Ibiza
It’s common sense, but make sure you are aware of the road rules in Ibiza. Be aware of speed limits – these are all signposted in kilometres per hour. The limit is 50 kilometres per hour in urban areas and 90 on highways. Seatbelts are compulsory and children under the age of 12 must be in a car seat.
Ibiza is known for partying, so if that’s what you’re going for then be mindful of when you get behind the wheel. It is illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and these can stay in your system longer than you might realise. Be aware of the timings between going out at night and driving the next morning.

Things to do When Hiring a Car in Ibiza
- Visit the beaches: San Antonio is located on the North central coast of Ibiza and has a number of beaches close by within driving distance. Hiring a car also gives you the opportunity to look further afield, visiting beaches around the whole island such as Platja de Cala Xarraca, Cala d’en Serra, Cala De Sant Vicent, Cala Nova, Cala Bossa, Platja de Es Cuco, and Cala d’Hort to name a few!
- Explore the countryside: If the coast isn’t for you, there are many small villages and towns to visit, as well as vineyards and olive groves if you drive further into the island.
Hiring a car when traveling is a great way to explore the local area without having to worry about public transport or time constraints.
