Withings Activité Pop Fitness Tracker Review

Every other person seems to have a fitness tracker and yep, I’m no different. There’s just something so appealing about having a little gadget to remind you how lazy you’re being. Right? After using my Fitbit for a good few years, I really wanted a change. I hadn’t been wearing it for a couple of months because I missed my regular watch, when I discovered the Withings Activité Pop and other watches… I know there are plenty of others about, but with this in my budget I needed to try it. Before we start on the review – I bought this with my own money, have not been asked to review and all thoughts are my own!

Features the Activité Pop boasts

Like most fitness trackers nowadays, the Activité Pop will track your walking, running and sleep activity. The watch will recognise a walk from a jog, and can detect when you’re sleeping at night. An added extra (compared to my Fitbit Flex at least!) is the waterproof feature and swim tracking. Get in the water with the watch on, and it will automatically recognise your swimming movement and start tracking. That’s pretty neat, right?

Similarily to other trackers, this watch has the silent alarm. You can set it and turn it on/off through the app, pretty simple to do. Other things you can track manually include weight, height, blood pressure and heart rate. Your phone can measure your heart rate through the camera/light, but it can’t do anything else for you!

And the main features that drew me in? The Activité Pop is an analogue watch. The reason I stopped wearing my Fitbit was because I missed having a watch. The sensor in there stopped my watch battery from working properly, and I’m someone who needs to have my watch on my left hand. (Where the Fitbit sat!) The other plus to having an analogue watch is that it runs on a regular watch battery. I can’t say for sure this is true, but Withings boast an 8+ months worth of wear before the battery needs changing. A far cry from the few days that the Fitbit lasts!

A look at my weeks activity, including both sleep and movement!

How the Activité Pop actually measures up

The steps tracker seems fairly accurate. I don’t think it’s perfect, but then I don’t think any tracker is. I’ve moved on from wanting to know exactly what I’m doing and now just having a general idea of the amount of steps, activity and sleep I’m doing each day is enough. I did however go on two runs during my holiday – both being tracked as walking. You can see this below – the 6.4km is me running out around 3km, stopping and walking around that area for a bit, and then running back. Appears to have tracked as one full long walk! It seems like this is a known problem though, and should be fixed in the next firmware update – we’ll see! Not entirely a problem, because on runs I will be using my Garmin as the main tracker.

Swimming was accurate – we were in the pool for around 35 minutes, so that’s all good. I do kind of wish it tracked the distance though!

Sleep-wise, it does pretty well in tracking waking up as far as I’ve noticed. It doesn’t know when you’re awake in the morning and just lying there being lazy… It’s made me get up quicker though – even if that is just to sit up and scroll through all my social media rather than lying down! The main annoyance is that you can’t turn the alarm off once it has woken you up. There are 12 vibrations in all, so it doesn’t last very long, but it would be nice to be able to turn off. The FAQ does state that they’re working on this feature though. You can check the alarm by keeping your wrist still and tapping on the watch face. The hands will then move to the alarm time and that’s pretty cool.

I’ve included a look at the weekly steps/distance view below, and the heart rate tracking. I’ve only tracked that a few times, but I think it’d be interesting to see how my heart rate changes throughout the day and after activities. Just never remember to do it!

The Activité Pop Design

I’m definitely a fan of how this watch looks. I chose the sand coloured one simply because of the lighter watch face – I didn’t want a pink, blue or black one. You can buy different straps and I reckon you could choose a different material. As the cheaper one, the Activité Pop has a rubber strap. It’s easy to clean, dries quickly after being worn in the shower or in a pool, and is comfortable. Different skin types will vary on this, but I haven’t had any irritation from the strap as of yet. It’s just like wearing a watch. I like having the little dial on the watch face telling me how many steps I’ve done – no need to keep checking the app.

Overall, I’m glad I bought this watch. There are still features that could do with a little more oomph, but I think it looks good enough, and works well enough. On the Withings website the Activité Pop costs £119.95, but you can find it a lot lower on specific websites, and with most shops and Amazon selling it at £89.99. Even better when you have Amazon vouchers to spend eh?
